“The mother and her daughter left before the staff could intervene”
Lidl is not one of the most expensive chain stores, but that obviously does not prevent shoplifting!
On Tuesday, a 67-year-old mother and her 34-year-old daughter traveled to Mortsel, near Antwerp, in a Lidl to do their shopping, as GVA explains. They take a shopping cart and put things in it. So far, nothing out of the ordinary. But instead of going through the checkouts, they left without paying.
In the parking lot, they quickly filled up their car and left.
It was a supermarket employee who alerted the Antwerp police on Tuesday afternoon. “The two ladies had simply passed the checkout with a full shopping cart without paying. They had already loaded their groceries into bags in the store, so they were able to quickly stuff them into their car and drive off before staff could intervene,” the Antwerp police spokesperson said.
The staff had noted down the registration number of the car, which made it easier for the police to find them. By intervening at the mother’s home, the police found all the food.
During the search, the police found even more stolen items from other stores. “Food and cosmetics, among other things. All these objects were seized by the police and the woman was arrested”.
