Paintings from the School of Rouen in an exceptional auction this Thursday in Rouen
An exceptional auction is taking place this Thursday in Rouen, at the Seine auction house, which includes 86 paintings, including some from the Rouen school, but also more modern works. This unprecedented sale has the Normandy coast as its common thread.
Works with an international vocation
It is a rare opportunity in a career for Guillaume Cheroyan, auctioneer in charge of the sale: ” It’s a sale that could have been expatriated to the Paris region, but I managed to convince the heirs to entrust the whole thing to me. I hope to prove that we can also, in the regions, achieve international results” he comments.
Among the most emblematic pieces of this collection, paintings by the painter Eugène Boudin, Raoul Dufy, but also more modern works such as those of Bernard Buffet, and abstracts by Georges Mathieu. French and foreign professional gallery owners are registered for the event, as are private collectors.
The Normandy coast as a common thread
The sale brings together 86 works, acquired over time by a Norman collector who has built up a veritable little personal museum on the theme of the Normandy coast: “This gentleman, once retired, became interested in painting and enrolled in the association of friends of the school of Rouen. He began with modest works, then moved upmarket with the acquisition of paintings by Pinchon, Lebourg, Delattre… before becoming interested in Honfleur, hence the gradual acquisition of works by Boudin” explains Me Guillaume Cheroyan.
The auction starts at 3 p.m. at Seine auction house this Thursday. It is also organized online at rouen-encheres.com
