Zakov reaffirmed Bulgaria’s commitment to supporting Ukrainian refugees
The Minister of Defense Dragomir Zakov participates in the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs / Defense Council in Brussels. During the meeting, a discussion was held on the EU’s strategic compass in the field of security and protection, with a focus on increasing the effectiveness of missions and operations under the common security and protection policy, the ministry’s press office said.
Minister Zakov highlighted as priorities the participation of the Compass for enhanced EU-NATO cooperation and ensures the sustainability and stability of the partners in the EU’s immediate neighborhood: the Western Balkans and the Eastern Partnership, as well as security in the Black Sea. It is taking steps to build the EU’s rapid deployment capacity by encouraging funding for military exercises as a possible incentive to contribute. Regarding the increase in the effectiveness of operations, he emphasized the good coordination with local authorities and other international organizations and participants in the field, as well as the strengthening of civil-military cooperation.
The Minister of Defense of the Court also of the Russian aggression in Ukraine in a joint session with NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Joanna and the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov. The implementation of EU-approved aid measures was discussed, as well as the continuation of support efforts. Minister Zakov reaffirmed Bulgaria’s commitment to providing support for Ukrainian refugees and military humanitarian, military-technical and medical assistance in Ukraine.
Against the background of the changing security in Europe, they emphasize the importance of the close environment with NATO and the call for the signing of the declaration between the two organizations soon.
At the meeting of the Steering Board of the European Ministerial Protection Agency, approved for approval of the EU Hub for Innovation in European Defense, emphasizing the importance of cooperation with similar NATO initiatives.
The Minister for the Judiciary also defends investments in protection and the strengthening of joint building and capacity building with the aim of strengthening the EU’s security and protection capacity. Bulgaria has encouraged the EU to offer concrete incentives for consumers to work in multinational defense capability and joint acquisition projects.
Minister Zakov also held a meeting with the Minister of Defense of Italy, which discussed issues of bilateral military cooperation.
