“Voir le club descendre en Ligue 2, ça fait mal”, confie Julien Courbet
“My first match, I saw it at 10 years old. Since I was 10 years old, I have been a fan. To see the club go down to Ligue 2, when we saw finals against Bayern Munich in UEFA, it hurts.” Guest of the podcast “We redo the match” hosted by Christophe Pacaud, Julien Courbet spoke about the inevitable descent of the Navy and white in the second division.
Despite the pain caused by relegation, the host of “It can happen to you” on RTL is not worried about a future recovery of his heart club. “I believe that the club has the ability to immediately recover“, he confessed. But, for him, the essential is not there: “I prefer to spend two years, even three, in Ligue 2 but that we put everything flat. It will always be better than going up to struggle in 16th place”.
An observation shared by Denis Granjou, who covers the news of the Girondins for RTL. After having wiped the slate clean, why not entrust responsibilities to the club’s alumni? “Alain Giresse is ready to work hard but we never called him“, he laments. Julien Courbet, he would like “a system like at Bayern where we put back in the organization chart Giresse, Trésor, Girard, people who fought for the club”.
But when asked if he is ready to help the Girondins, the host is adamant : “I can help them to communicate but sportingly never in life”.
