Portugal reinforces attention to Luso-Venezuelans
“TWe have given support to the Portuguese Medical Social Assistance Network (…) which is of great importance and that is why we want to expand it. In addition to the four doctors, we have one more doctor, but also more human resources in this social area”, said Cafôfo.
The official was speaking to Lusa and to local Venezuelan and Madeira social bodies at the end of a six-day visit to Venezuela, where he made contact with Portuguese in Caracas, Valencia, Maracay and Los Teques.
“The proposal I made is that we have [também] plus a social technician and a social attaché, two essential elements for the support to be channeled in the direct accompaniment that it is necessary to carry out with our community”, stressed Paulo Cafôfo.
The Secretary of State explained that the Portuguese Medical Network for Social Assistance has already carried out more than 2,000 consultations and over 1.8 tons of distribution and that the Portuguese Government has focused on social support, particularly in terms of support for emigrants and the elderly in need.
On the other hand, he stated that he also had great support from Lisbon “Portuguese consulars from Venezuela”.
“Consular acts are done as 26, 4 people grew compared to 20020 and people with money are free here in Venezuela, consular acts are 1% done after 2 years, he stressed and that is for 2 to follow”, he stressed.
Paulo Cafôfo started on Thursday a visit to Venezuela, as part of the initiative “Portugal in the World: Paths for the Valorization of Portuguese Communities” and which aims to “strengthen ties” and get closer to the Portuguese residing abroad and those living in Portugal.
