Oslo Børs misses European upturn
When the United States rang the bell on May 16 and closed trade for the day, the color was red. But as the sun rose in the east, negative numbers had turned to optimism and increased stock market values, and that progress has spread to the European market on Tuesday.
For today’s color in Europe is definitely green.
Everything points upwards
Today is the day when the blue Russians would say “Come on, you beautiful per mille”, but most stock exchanges in Europe do not talk about thousandths, but strong percentages.
Virtually all stock exchanges are well above the percentage at 11 o’clock in the morning.
London is up, Frankfurt is up, Paris is up, Amsterdam, Brussels, Stockholm, Helsinki and Lisbon the same. Yes, even the Moscow Stock Exchange in Russia is green today, May 17th.
Then it is a pity for the investors who have invested their money in Norwegian listed companies that they are not allowed to take part in the upturn since the Oslo Stock Exchange is closed due to the national day celebrations.
They can comfort themselves with ice cream, soft drinks and sausages and hope that there is a little stock market cake left over when the clock strikes 09.00 on 18 May.
Tobacco and hydrogen
In London, it is the special tobacco company Imperial Brands that makes it strong.
The company rose almost seven percent on Wednesday morning, despite the fact that revenue is almost at the place where the half-year result was announced on 17 May.
But investors are happy. They might have feared worse high?
In Paris, it is company Engie that impresses. They work in the field of renewable energy and hydrogen is one of the focus areas. The stock is up over six percent on Wednesday morning.
Orkla’s big brother falls
Unilever is a giant in the stock market and international trading.
The company owns a number of well-known brands found in the grocery trade, and is a strong competitor to Orkla on Norwegian store shelves.
Unilever shares are down on Wednesday, about 1.3 percent before lunchtime in London. The company does not report anything special today, and the price drops just to days before the dividend is to be registered on 19 May.
Cheers in Copenhagen
The biggest increase in the morning was tracking in Copenhagen, where prices are almost 2.3 percent.
Helsinki and Amsterdam also offer strong highs with rises of 1.9 and over 1.6 percent respectively around 11.30 Norwegian time.
London is weakest with an increase of just 0.68 percent. But a lot can happen before May 17 is over in all countries other than Norway.
