la ZFE arrive, mais (presque) personne ne sait ce que c’est
This survey was commissioned by Bordeaux Métropole, because the ZFE is fast approaching. What is it about ? It is a legal tool which makes it possible to regulate the circulation of motor vehicles, according to their more or less polluting character. Clearly, to exclude old diesels as a priority, to improve air quality in cities, road transport representing 75% of air pollution. The Climate and Resilience Law imposes the creation of ZFEs in urban areas with more than 150,000 inhabitants, no later than January 1, 2025. With its 815,000 souls, Bordeaux Métropole is no exception.
67% of metropolitans in favor
The majority of the inhabitants of the agglomeration, and more generally of the department, therefore see a device coming forward which will concern them more or less directly, but of which they are unaware of almost everything. Nevertheless, still according to Ifop, when they know a little more, 67% of the inhabitants of the Métropole declare themselves in favor of the establishment of a ZFE (56% for the rest of the Gironde outside Métropole). 81% of metropolitan residents believe that the ZFE will have an impact on health, 80% on air quality. For 47% of them, the implementation of the ZFE can encourage them to opt for a less polluting vehicle. In Gironde outside Metropolitan France, only 35% hold this reasoning.
Five citizen witness groups
This survey offers an inventory two and a half years before the establishment of the Bordeaux ZFE. In terms of communication, there is therefore still a lot (or almost everything) to be done. It will also allow the Métropole to set up five witness groups of citizens for the consultation phase. It should be remembered that to date, only two elements concerning the ZFE are known: the date of entry into force (by January 1, 2025 at the latest) and the geographical scope (14 municipalities of the intra-bypass). The law requires that at least 50% of the inhabitants of the agglomeration be covered by the ZFE.
