in 20 thousand without a general practitioner. “An October peak of inconvenience”
Among the most critical conditions of Rome and Province, there is the Asl 6, that of the Castles and the South Coast, where 20 are missing general practitioners. And, consequently, approx 20,000 people they do not have the possibility of having the “family” doctor.

Too many retired doctors
You breathe a little more in Rome, where those who have it keep it tight. But by this year about 250 people in the capital will retire and the risk is that about 250,000 patients may find themselves without their reference point in the health field. The alarm comes from the Fimmg of Rome, the Italian Federation of general practitioners. «Between now and the end of the year, in the city, about 10% of the doctors now on duty will retire. And ours is an underestimate based on mere personal data », explains Pier Luigi Bartoletti, provincial secretary of the Fimmg. To admit that the situation is complex is the councilor for health of the Lazio Region Alessio D’Amato, who, however, photographs the situation with even more gloomy numbers than those launched by the same health professionals. “We have difficulties in covering some areas, especially the less accessible ones – he says – In the next few months 25% of the doctors in Lazio will retire”. On the administration Zingaretti has already put the first solutions: “We have” carte blanche “to the general managers of the ASL: they can adopt some extraordinary interventions that given the table, to each individual doctor, to be able to have up to 1,800 assisted, going beyond the quota of 1,500 of the maximalists – says D’Amato – In addition, we allow those who have reached retirement age to remain in service and bring in young doctors still in training ». In addition to the Castles, critical situations also in the ASL Roma5, which covers the Tiburtina area and the Aniene Valley, where he is forced to travel ten kilometers to go to the doctor.
ASSISTANCE
Today, according to Bartoletti, in addition to the lack of personnel, there is a problem of “fairness of access to services”. «The saying“ doctor you go, service you find ”is valid – he emphasizes – Being a general practitioner without administrative staff is practically impossible, yet only 55% of doctors in Lazio have a similar service. It must be borne in mind that calls made on the telephone to replies via Whatsapp must be guaranteed ». On this issue, however, there is no point of failure between Region and doctors. “I don’t agree so much – answers D’Amato – we don’t need the administrative, more than anything else we need family doctors able to perform first level exams, at least the most requested ones, such as ultrasound scans, spirometry , electrocardiograms “. All this will pass through the national reform. The new health of the territories will start from the ministerial agreement and then be developed on a regional basis. “We will focus a lot on technological and digital innovation,” says the commissioner. For doctors, however, we must act quickly: “We cannot arrive unprepared in the autumn, with Covid, the flu and other diseases”, urges Bartoletti. For the Fimmg doctors, in the last two years, the workload has increased by 300%. The doctors from Lazio with 1,500 patients issued the same number of prescriptions in 2019 and 2020: 22 thousand every year. In 2021, however, the numbers soared: 24,000. An extra workload that can be felt on their shoulders.
