A heat record expected this Wednesday in Toulouse!
Like a taste of summer! This Monday, May 15, the thermometer has been showing temperatures since above normal for the season in Toulouse and the rest of France. This month of May 2022 could even be the hottest ever recorded in France.
Nearly 34°C in Toulouse
According to the hopes of Météo Pyrénées, “we will approach the 34°C at Toulouse “. As a reminder, the last heat record in May dates back to 30/05/2001 during which a temperature of 33.4°C had been recorded.
Where does this heat episode come from? Meteorologists call this phenomenon “heat dome”. This is a term used when a anticyclone remains blocked over an area for a long time. “This is the case in France. An anticyclone centered on the country will bring up hot air from the Maghreb and Spain. Its positioning then leads to the blocking of hot air masses on the territory”, explains Meteo France. From then on, the temperatures recorded in France will be between 8 to 10°C above the seasonal norms judged by meteorologists.
Drop in temperatures this Thursday
This record of temperatures could dip on Thursday May 19, with a thermometer dropping below 30°C announces Meteo France. However, temperatures will start to rise again this Friday, May 20 and will remain so until the end of the week.
