Vienna Cammarota lands on the island of Marco Polo
Now the historic walker Vienna Cammarota, the first woman in the world who left Venice for Beijing on foot and Ambassador of Archeoclub of Italy, is on an excursion on the island of Korcula where they claim the origins of Marco Polo. Tomorrow meeting with the mayor and the Croatian press, then on the 18th evening I return to Zagreb. On 19 May morning on the way to Serbia crossing Croatia on foot, step by step.
Cammarota of Vienna (Archeoclub D’Italia Ambassador – historic walker): “Focusing on ecological, sustainable tourism is now a choice that can no longer be postponed. Good for the big cities of art but let’s deepen the knowledge of the small, numerous villages that often, thanks to the presence of centuries-old churches, palaces and monuments, preserve the great artistic, historical and identity heritage! On 19 May while I am on my way, from where I will be, I will connect with an audience of 500 students from Naples and its province who will be at the Summarte Theater in Somma Vesuviana, a village I visited and where the facade of the ancient church was recently restored of the Collegiate Church “.
In Zagreb triumphantly welcomed by the Ambassadors of Culture Association along the Silk Road and by the Italy – China Association with festivals and evenings – events.
Thursday – 19 – May – 11 am – Summarte Theater – 500 students from Naples and its province in video / audio connection with Vienna Cammarota via Skype.
THE STORY
“I made an excursion to the island of Korcula, very beautiful and full of villages. They wouldn’t be convinced that Marco Polo was born on this island but I don’t think so much. I’ll meet the mayor tomorrow. I was accompanied by a historian who, knowing of my path, wanted me to arrive in Korcula on an excursion. Then I will return to Zagreb on May 18th evening and from Zagreb, on the morning of 19th I will resume the journey. Tomorrow I will meet the Croatian press in Korcula. In any case, what I am taking is a really interesting journey. Sentjerneje is a truly fairytale village in Slovenia, in Trebnje the wonderful churches of St. Peter and Paul. On the 19th I will be on my way to Serbia in the morning, with the Chinese press in my wake.
Every now and then, during the journey, I manage to stop to allow live Skype with the newspapers that call me from Italy. On MAY 19, for example, I will connect with the Summarte Theater in Somma Vesuviana, at 11 am, where there will be more than 500 students from Naples and its province to see me. I will talk to them about the importance of environmental sustainability and the need to follow an ecological, sustainable, earth-friendly tourism. We often sink the big cities but there are the villages, the small villages that thanks to the presence of secular churches have a great artistic and cultural heritage.
I am thinking for example of the recently rediscovered historic Via Regia delle Calabrie. Here I believe that we must focus on agricultural tourism, ecological and small but numerous villages. It is a thought that could be valid not only for Italy but also for other nations and also for the Silk Road itself. I am leaving Zagreb after a long stop and the wonderful welcome by the Italy – China Association and by the Cultural Ambassadors Association along the Silk Road with festivals and event evenings also in the Croatian capital. I also thank the Ca ‘Foscari University of Venice for granting the patronage ”.
