Unreachable places in Milan open their doors with Open House
Places of architecture meet the public this weekend of May 14 and 15, with the opening of architectural and designer agencies, private homes, institutions, foundations and archives. Heterogeneous places for the most part usually inaccessible, which tell Milan, its history, its evolution and its identities.
Open House Milano, the leading event dedicated to architecture and urban planning, is an invitation to discover old, modern and contemporary buildings, normally inaccessible.
Milan, “Sustainable City”
The event born in London in 1992, is in its seventh in Milan, and takes the theme of “Sustainable City”: a city that preserves and enhances the architectures of the past while reinventing itself to project itself into the future, by preparing for major transformations and urban challenges. The major challenge is that of sustainable development, which respects a circular architecture, capable, according to the indications of the UN, of promoting development adequate to the needs of the present without compromising future generations.
The Open House Milano program
Each year, the editions are enriched with places to discover, numbering 100 for this 7th edition (free entry, but book on the website open doorsmilano.org). In line with the theme of the sustainable city, the program integrates large-scale urban regeneration projects, such as Scalo Farini and Scalo Lambrate. It will also be possible to visit the largest private construction site in Italy, that of Merlata Bloom, the work of the real estate services company Nhood.
In another register, let’s mention the visit of the aerial refuge Piazza Grandi, La casa del codice a barre (house of the bar code), the Giuseppe Verdi auditorium or the Vetra Building. Heterogeneous places, which have in common Milan, in its diversity.
