Refugees: Further search for quarters in Austria
The refugee situation in Austria is currently under control, but the search for accommodation must continue. That’s what refugee coordinator Michael Takacs said to journalists during a conversation today. 68,000 refugees from Ukraine have been recorded so far, 40,000 to 42,000 of them are currently in basic care.
To date, a good 2,500 work permits have been issued to people displaced from Ukraine. More than 4,500 are registered with the AMS to look for work. Of course, the potential is much greater. 53,000 had already received a “blue card” that allows access to the labor market. In the meantime, 8,000 children and young people have arrived in everyday school life.
There is still a lot of air in the quarters. A large accommodation facility was only recently opened in Simmering and has only just been filled. However, Takacs reports that new accommodations are being registered all the time: “If we don’t lean back, we’ll be able to finance 150,000 to 200,000.” The German courses show that there is a buffer. 34,000 additional places were created, 2,000 would be used.
