At that time, the third-league team from Uherské Hradiště fought their way through the first-league Baník Ostrava and Bohemians Prague to the finals of the then Czech Cup, which took place on April 11, 1990.
The team of coach Ladislav Janský took up Dukla Praha in Hodoní and, although they collected very quickly, prepared a beautiful football moment for the favored opponent and the stadium, which was full of almost seven thousand visitors from Slovak fans.
Already in the 10th minute, Takáč took advantage of the misunderstanding in the defense of the soldiers and after half an hour he took advantage of the famous pass of the experienced Lorence among Ježek’s stopsters. The fast-footed forward “Slovácké” escaped the defenders at the beginning of the second half and clouds began to gather over Dukla. Within six minutes, however, they were dispersed by the trio of Foldyna, Hapal and Korejčík, and the experienced ligatures have already led the match to advance to the finals of the then Czechoslovak Cup, where they also handled Inter Bratislava.
“Nobody expected us in the final. The moment we collected in the second minute, my head flashed, just don’t be ashamed, because the match was live on TV. After the settlement, however, we became nervous, the game settled and our performance was decent. We took the lead up to 3: 1. Karoch then came on the field and began directing the game in the middle of the field. Dukla then little, a goal that VAR probably would not sanctify today, because in our opinion it was offside, but that is history today. After all, we gradually started to run out of energy, because the match was extremely difficult. The conclusion was only a matter of time before Dukla would definitely break and that was confirmed, “says Jiří Flašar, the former captain of Slovácko Slavia Uherské Hradiště, after years on the club’s website.
The experience for him was the whole trip through the cup, not only the final itself. “Quarterfinals with Baník from Ostrava, home win 4: 3 on very difficult terrain with Prague Bohemka and then of course the final duel in Hodonín, where we trained twice and got used to the environment and terrain. On the day of the match, we had lunch together at the then “Šarovka” and then we went to Hodonín, “he recalls.
For the second time, Slovácko reached the finals in 2005, when they were going through a turbulent period. After the departure of the Valent family, they fell at the table and almost the entire league season was played for rescue. On the other hand, Baník from Ostrava could only play the highest duel for many weeks, because at that time the superstructure was not yet played and Baník was moving in the quiet middle of the table.
He also confirmed his readiness on the lawn in Olomouc. To the surprise of the entire republic, none of the televisions transmitted the last match, so Andre’s stadium burst at the seams and both fan camps drove their players to attack.
Metelka from Ostrava scored the key first goal and Slovácko squeezed Banácko in the end. The impulsive coach of Slovácko, Laco Molnár, moved several times over the judges’ verdicts, but this did not prevent him from substituting. Although Richard Dostálek still drew a glimmer of hope through the contact goal, the team around Captain Jan Palink was already missing the team and the Baníkovci rejoiced in the cup.
“I just saw my picture with the cup in second place and I remembered the great feeling of disappointment again. No one was interested in second place. They all focused only on the winner and it was Baník who was playing in the league competition in the middle of the tables at the time and we were fighting for a save in the last rounds. Maybe that’s why he was more relaxed in the finals. Both physically and mentally, “says the former captain of Slovácko and today one of the assistant coaches, Jan Palinek.
I had a bittersweet feeling from the last match. “I was sorry we didn’t win the match. But when I look at the match from a distance and impartially, then Baník deservedly won. It was ten steps better. He had more chances, “he admits over the years. I can’t forget the atmosphere, which was great then. “It was created by both fan camps. But ours were great. Even though we lost, they took us as the winner and we rejoiced together after our return to the square and in the fountain, “smiles Palinek.

The next cup final was reached by Slovácko at the time of the transformation. The new owner of the club, Zdeněk Zemek, first had to deal with the debts of the previous owner, and Slovácko “rested” in the second league for two seasons.
Nevertheless, it managed to unleash a cup mania in Slovácko in the 2008/2009 season. In this, the rule was that since the quarterfinals, the system was played at home – away, and so the game between Slovácko among the four best teams was decided by two games with Ostrava’s Baník.
In the middle, the Slovak team first sent a lot to the Prague Eden, where the then captain René Formánek prepared a proper ice shower with the winning home goal. It was the first ever defeat of the red and whites in their new tabernacle.
However, the self-confident Praguers believed in revenge in Slovakia. But they were greeted by a sold-out stadium, in which the favorite was fried by the elusive young man Ondřejek. In the end, a football invasion of Strahov could begin.
The Slovácko team was accompanied by twenty-five bus-filled fans, which created a home atmosphere for the second-league Slovácko region. But even that was not enough to win the cup.
Teplice managed to push one of the few chances behind Filipka’s goalkeeper and defended their one-goal victory.
“In 2008-2009 we played the second league and we did not set any big goals. We played more match after match and it was the same in the cup. It didn’t occur to us for a long time that it would eventually be such a ride. From the way to the final, they recall my goal in Eden against Slavia, in the first semifinal match. Tomáš Kazár put the center on the right side of my head and I pushed against Erich Brabec and Martin Vaniak. We drove a one-goal point in the home revenge and at home we confirmed the progress. Then I remember that the whole Slovácko region fell into a football euphoria. We were accompanied to Prague by Strahov by perhaps twenty-five buses. The finale itself did not offer much football beauty. It was rather militant on both sides. Teplice did not let us into any chances. But there was no chance of an opponent either, so the final was decided by Mahmutovič’s arrival from the beginning of the second half, “says former captain René Formánek.

The former defender still remembers the final whistle and tremendously much that he can no longer do anything with the result. “And then, of course, the endless journey up the steps for the defeated team’s cup. “What layout I was best seen in my photo with the cup, which I recently saw somewhere,” he added.
