France Insoumise and EELV have signed an agreement for the next legislative elections (scheduled for June 12 and 19). In Lyon, environmentalists will be present in 3 out of 4 constituencies.
Late, Sunday evening, La France insoumise and EELV signed an agreement for the next legislative elections, around a common banner “New popular ecological and social union“.
“We share goals programmatic which constitute the basis of a shared government program of several hundred proposals”, writes EELV in a press release. “Among these proposals, we defend in particular the increase of the SMIC to 1400 euros, the return to retirement at 60 for all, the guarantee of autonomy for young people, the price freeze on basic necessities and the eradication of poverty”. The establishment of ecological planning is also defended, as is the establishment of a 6and Republic “to put an end to presidentialism“.
Parliamentary elections ?
These elections, announced on Sunday June 12, 2022 (1st round) and Sunday June 19 (2nd round), allow the election of 577 deputies to the National Assembly. They are capital. The deputies vote in particular all the laws. The distribution of the seats of deputies is carried out by population groups, also called constituencies (approximately 100,000 – 125,000 inhabitants per constituency).
In the Rhône, there are 14 constituencies. The Rhône therefore sends 14 deputies to the National Assembly. Only one MP is elected per constituency, the one who comes first in the second round.
Environmentalists negotiated well in Lyon
Ecologists represent in particular the “New popular ecological and social union” in the 4 districts of the Rhône, including 3 out of 4 in Lyon.
In the 2nd constituency, there will be no LFI candidate facing the outgoing Generation Ecology deputy, Hubert Julien-Laferrière. In the 3rd district, it is the ecologist Marie-Charlotte Garin, chief of staff to the mayor of the 5th arrondissement, who wears the colors of the New popular ecological and social union. In Lyon, environmentalists thought absolutely “save” this circo, judged to be winnable.
Benjamin Badouard, the co-president of the environmental group in the Metropolis of Lyon, will also be the candidate of the New popular ecological and social union in the 4th district of the Rhône, which notably includes the 6th arrondissement of Lyon. LFI has “left” this constituency to environmentalists, believing that an EELV candidate has more chances than an LFI in this very difficult to win constituency.
Finally, in the Rhône, EELV will also be present in the 12th district (west of Lyon – Francheville, Tassin, Sainte-Foy, Oullins), where Jean-Francois Baudin will wear the colors of the union. A circus where his chances are limited.
In all the other constituencies, EELV ranks behind LFI. In particular in the 6th district, in Villeurbanne, where the ecologists nevertheless had high hopes. Villeurbanne was let go quite early in the negotiation. “On an awareness of the balance of power of the first round», Explains a framework of environmentalists.
The PCF wants the 14th constituency, in Vénissieux, but…
It remains to be seen now what the discussions with the other possible partners, the PS and the PCF, will give. In the Rhône, the PCF claims the 14th constituency, that of Vénissieux, where the PCF mayor of the town, Michèle Picard, wishes to run. But the Insoumis wish to invest Taha Bouhafs.
Tensions with the PS in Villeurbanne
Discussions as difficult in the 6th district, in Villeurbanne, where the PS still hopes to win the nomination. But LFI wants to invest Gabriel Amard, the kind of Jean-Luc Mélenchon. This leads, locally, to tensions. Lyon Cap’ mentioned it several times last week.
