A group of Yellow Vests took center stage during the May Day demonstration in Toulouse. These surprise guests imposed themselves at the start of the procession with a banner “Yellow vests from all countries, let’s unite”. Their arrival caused some tension. The CGT security service tried to get them to move, inviting them to demonstrate further in the procession, without success.

Behind, is described the three unions organizing the demonstration, namely the CGT, the FSU and Solidaires. They were joined, for the first time, by the CFDT departmental union. “We are all marching together for a better future. We will only obtain it in unity. It is a strong message that we are sending to our politicians”, declares Claude, a CGT activist, in the columns of The Midi Dispatch.

Among the main demands of this demonstration is improving purchasing power, the increase in wages and pensions or even the retirement age. It should be noted that in this year 2022, Labor Day takes place between two elections, the presidential and the legislative ones.

The May Day demonstration in Toulouse started from Esquirol at 10 a.m. and ended in Arnaud-Bernard shortly after noon. It gathered some 3,500 people, according to the authorities. At the national level, Labor Day brought together 116,500 demonstrators, according to the Ministry of the Interior. More than 210,000 according to the CGT.
