The left leadership gets a vote of confidence, a mandate for coalition talks
LJUBLJANA – The Left Council on Friday confirmed the party’s executive committee, led by coordinator Luka Mesec, after the committee gave a vote of confidence and the party leadership was given a mandate to hold talks with the Freedom Movement to join coalitions led by Robert Golob. The month told reporters on Saturday that it would meet on Tuesday with leaders of potential coalition partners, the Freedom Movement and the Social Democrats (SD). He added that he expected “concrete steps towards a new government”.
On Friday, the incidence of coronavirus decreased by 9% from week to week.
LJUBLJANA – A total of 948 new cases of coronavirus infection were reported on Friday, which is 9 percent less than last week, as the situation with covid in Slovenia remains stable, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health. The total number of patients in the usual covid wards decreased by one to 76, while the number of ICUs increased by one to 12. No covid patients died yesterday. Slovenia’s 14-day reporting of cases per 100,000 population decreased by 16 out of 619.
Türk at the first meeting of the UN High Level Advisory Committee
NEW YORK, USA – Former Slovenian President Danilo Türk attended the first meeting of the High-Level Advisory Committee on Effective Multilateralism in New York. He told the STA on the occasion that the UN may never have been in such a difficult situation as today, especially due to the Russian attack on Ukraine. “The multilateral system is falling apart and Secretary General Guterres is trying to preserve it and give it new content,” Türk told STA.
Belimed notices increased demand as the Covid 19 pandemic subsides
GROSUPLJE – Belimed, a subsidiary of the Swiss manufacturer of washing and disinfecting machines and sterilization equipment used in medicine, increased demand when medical procedures returned to the rail. In 2021, the company generated a net profit of EUR 1.2 million through sales of EUR 41 million. The company currently employs 243 people and plans to increase the number of employees by 15% in the near future. Their largest markets are the US, followed by Europe, China and Japan.
Judoka Pogačnik won the European bronze in the category up to 70 kg
SOFIA, Bulgaria – Slovenian judoka Anka Pogačnik won a bronze medal in the 70kg category at the European Judo Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, her first medal at major competitions. In the decisive fight, after three penalties, she defeated the Dutch Hilde Jager. The 30-year-old Slovenian lost in the quarterfinals to Dutchwoman Sanne van Dijke, who won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics and last year’s World Championships.
The Rose Festival begins in Nova Gorica
MOVA GORICA – The 17th Rose Festival will start in Nova Gorica today. Until May 22, it will offer visitors a number of events related to roses, which have become one of the main symbols of the city and its wider surroundings. Visitors will be able to walk through the rose parks and the bourbon rose garden on the Kostanjevica hill, attend workshops, exhibitions and numerous concerts, or enjoy the city’s many delicacies.
Pop-up concerts on the occasion of International Jazz Day
LJUBLJANA – On Saturday, Slovenia marked the International Jazz Day with a series of street performances and live concerts by jazz musicians, which will be a welcome change after two years of Covid-19. In addition to Ljubljana, there will be events or have already taken place in several other cities. Slovenian in France in prison for stealing Cesna in Italy
ROME, Italy – A court in the French city of Aix-en-Provence sentenced a Slovenian citizen to three years and six months in prison for stealing a Cessna plane from the airport in the Italian resort of Novi Ligure in March and taking it to France, Italian media reported. The 33-year-old stole a Cessna 172 from E.Mossi Airport north of Genoa in northwestern Italy and flew over the Ligurian coastal region and the French Riviera.
