the Golden Gate Quartet at the Imperial Palace on May 7
Be careful, it’s a real musical earthquake that risks shaking its foundations… Three months before its “Impérial Annecy Festival”, the Imperial palace on the Albigny peninsula is pleased to receive the mythical Golden Gate Quartet on Saturday, May 7. 80 years after having arisen in the Old South of the segregationist era in the United States, this famous golden quartet, accompanied by a trio of faithful musicians, illustrates today its creative vitality by publishing a new album whose title, The Golden Gate Quartet 80 years is commensurate with the place it occupies in the history of jazz.
The strength of this group of exceptional singers is to have always been able to consolidate this status as an ambassador of black American music on a planetary scale. After having recognized to make the link between the age of spirituals and the era of gospel, after having anticipated the advent of hip-hop – and even rap – thanks to the long monologues that have characterized its repertoire for decades, the Golden Gate Quartet has demonstrated the modernity of its art. Away from fashion, the fruit of an unalterable state of mind.
With Paul Brembly, Michael Robinson, John Alexander III Gardner and Daniel La Monte on vocals. A concert organized in partnership with Radio Semnoz which this year celebrates its 40and anniversary.
Saturday May 7 at 8:30 p.m. at the Imperial Palace in Annecy. More information: 04 50 09 38 88 or [email protected]. Ticket office at the hotel reception and on www.hotel-imperialpalace.fr.
