The future of water in the Metropolis of Lyon at the heart of a major participatory approach | Company
From morning to evening, water is used. To drink it (yes, that even happens to us in Lyon…), but also to wash, cook or relax, water is our first vital need. And unfortunately, this resource is in danger over the years. How to anticipate this future by preventing apocalyptic and anxiety-provoking speeches? The Metropolis of Lyon took the problem to the body in paid a public water authority to control the entire water cycle (from collection to tariffs, including filtering, distribution and treatment) from 2023.
But it doesn’t stop there: the Metropolis of Lyon is launching the Eau futurE approach for 4 months. In details, future water invites us to better understand the challenges of tomorrow and to imagine together other ways of using and sharing water in the future through projection workshops in the future: theatre,
writing, walks, films… The objective: to raise awareness of the scarcity of water, to provide citizens with an immersive experience to encourage them to question future issues.create new stories on the question of the management and collective use of water.
Figures that send shivers down your spine
It is estimated that water will become increasingly scarce in the region and everywhere else. At home, the level of the Rhône should decrease by 40% by 2050 and the quality of the water could deteriorate over the years while the summer drought periods will intensify.. Suffice to say that the questioning is in order.
Since March 22 (World Water Day) and until July, the Metropolis of Lyon organizes more than 80 events in 30 municipalities of its territory, with schools, colleges, MJC, social centers, residences for elderly people, shared gardens… The objective? Going as close as possible to the inhabitants and making them live experiences: prospective walks by Iloz and the Urban School of Lyon, projection workshops in the future by Imaginarium-s and the Guild of Innovation, cinemas debates by Eau Bien Commun, poetic writing workshops by Martin Fuster and Justin Follenfant and theater workshops by
the Urban School of Lyon.

A challenge to test a month of June with less water
On the sidelines of this large-scale participatory approach, the Métropole de Lyon also organizes the Clicks Challenge. The goal: to bring together households that improve the challenge of saving water over the course of a month. On the one hand, by testing the use of water at home, on the other, by limiting its “invisible” consumption, that is to say the water that is hidden behind the production of food and clothes. You have until May 31 to register. here and the results will be revealed and described on July 7.
