The Swedish legislature has supported a motion calling on the government to establish a so-called House of Sweden in Taiwan.
Stockholm already runs a House of Sweden – in the USA. There it hosts the embassies of Sweden, Iceland and Liechtenstein, together with an event center with conference and exhibition halls.
The Swedish Parliament is now calling on Stockholm to establish a House of Sweden in Taiwan to strengthen ties and increase Sweden’s representation in the country.
Taiwan’s foreign minister has welcomed the news. It says that support for Taiwan has a consensus between several parties in the Swedish legislature.
The ministry says that Sweden and Taiwan are both facing military threats, cognitive warfare and disinformation efforts from authoritarian countries. This makes it more important than ever, according to the ministry, to strengthen the ties between Sweden and Taiwan.
The ministry says it hopes that the Swedish government will react positively to the legislator’s latest motion.
