Netherlands U17 to Israel, question marks with parents: ‘No irresponsible choices’
The Dutch national team U17 has been active for more than three weeks at the youth European Championship in Israel, but a few things are going on in that country. The tension in Israel is questioning parents of players. Various sources inform this website about this.
The conflict between Palestine and Israel has been going on for a long time, but more intense. On the other hand, the locals hardly notice it. For example, life in Tel Aviv goes on as usual. “As if something is happening in Maastricht that men in Amsterdam hardly notice. It is rare, it seems like a different country. But it just is. Here in Tel Aviv we are aware of it,” says Israel.
The fact is that the situation is questioning the parents of the players, logically they are concerned about the well-being of their child. “We have informed the parents that we are keeping a close eye on it. We are in contact with the Dutch players in Israel, UEFA and the Israeli Football Association,” a KNVB said.
The Netherlands qualified for the European Championship in March by finishing first in the UEFA Elite Round with Hungary, Slovakia and Greece. On Monday, May 16, the Netherlands will play its first group match against Bulgaria. After that, Poland (May 19) and France (May 22) are the horizontals. The Netherlands will meet Bulgaria and Poland in Lod and France in Rishon LeZion, both cities are located in the center of Israel. Lod is a half hour flight from Gaza, Rishon LeZion a little further.
The Netherlands managed to win the European Championship in both 2018 and 2019 and will also be the absolute title favorite in Israel. The past two editions were canceled due to corona.
