MDN Plus started in Germany, Austria, Switzerland
Mozilla has launched MDN Plus, the premium offering from MDN Web Docs, in 16 additional countries, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Mozilla is best known for its free products like the Firefox browser. In order to offer users additional added value, but also to reduce financial dependence on search engine providers, Mozilla is increasingly relying on paid premium offers such as Mozilla VPN or Firefox Relay Premium. Mozilla’s newest premium offering, MDN Plus, is aimed at a web developer.
MDN Plus: Premium model with three tiers
The numerous articles of the MDN Web Docs will of course remain free of charge in the future. MDN Plus offers additional functions for users who can also support the operation and further development (including the free version) of the MDN Web Docs. In addition, Mozilla is considering investing a portion of its proceeds into open source projects that contribute to the MDN Web Docs.
Mozilla offers three different pricing tiers, each with a 20 percent discount if you pay annually in advance:
- MDN Core – This free variant is intended for anyone who is interested to get a taste of it. This allows notifications to be enabled for up to three items and up to five items can be saved in the personal collection.
- MDN Plus 5 – This is the regular premium version which includes all premium features without any limitation. MDN Plus 5 costs 5 euros per month or 50 euros per year.
- MDN supporter 10 – For those who want to support Mozilla even more. In addition to the features of MDN Plus 5, you get early access to upcoming features and access to a feedback platform to get in touch with the MDN team. This price level costs 10 euros per month or 100 euros per year.
Start in Germany, Austria and Switzerland
Almost a month ago, MDN Plus was launched in the USA and Canada. The free version of MDN Core is now available worldwide. The paid options MDN Plus 5 and MDN Supporter 10 can now be subscribed to in 16 additional countries, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The other countries are Belgium, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Sweden, Singapore and Spain. Other countries are to follow in the future.
These are the premium features of MDN Plus
Get notified about changes to articles
Users can follow articles to be notified of changes, for example when an article WILL be updated with new browser support information. Notifications can also be marked via a star function in the notification list in order to read them later.
Add item to personal collection
If you have a particular interest in certain items, you can add them to your very personal collection, making it easy to find the items in one central location that can be accessed from anywhere. It is also possible to leave notes on the secret pages. Frequently visited pages are also added to the collection, but in a separate section.
Read articles without internet access
MDN Plus offers the ability to save articles for offline use, so they can be read without internet access. The personal collection can also be searched offline and notifications already received can be read.
… and more in the future
The description of the MDN Supporter 10 option already indicates that further features are to be expected in the future, about which, of course, no precise information can be given at this time. It is also expected that there WILL be one or two exclusive articles by industry experts for MDN Plus, in which a specific topic will be examined in detail.
