Hygienists noted a reduction in the number of coronavirus copies in wastewater, the situation has improved in all regions
In the 15th calendar week, the Regional Public Health Office recorded a decrease in SARS-CoV-2 RNA copy numbers in wastewater and a decrease in incidence. The Public Health Office of the Slovak Republic informed about it in its profile on the social network, stating that in the given week the SARS-CoV-2 virus was detected in all samples taken.
Reduction in all regions
In the observed week, they record a decrease in quantitative examinations, which express the copy number of SARS-CoV-2 RNA. According to hygienists, monitoring of the viral load in wastewater in individual regions shows a reduction in all regions. ÚVZ SR evaluated that the analysis of the presence of SARS-CoV-2 virus in wastewater in Slovakia corresponds to the epidemic situation. First, it recommends that they continue to comply with the ROR rules and receive the basic vaccination or booster dose.
As of 18 April 2022, the Regional Public Health Office, in cooperation with the operators of wastewater treatment plants, took a total of 897 samples, which were examined by a qualitative and quantitative method. Of these, 873 (97.32 percent) samples were positive or with cut-off values.
Samples are monitored weekly
The increase in the number of positive samples was recorded by the ÚVZ SR from the 35th calendar week of 2021. ÚVZ SR started monitoring wastewater in the SR for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 virus in the 18th calendar week 2021 and performed it regularly in each region of the SR.
The presence of the virus in wastewater samples is determined by RT-PCR and digital RT-PCR. Samples of ÚVZ SR are investigated in the National Reference Center for Environmental Microbiology at ÚVZ SR.
The number of positive coronavirus in Slovakia is declining, Lengvarský also spoke about the prediction for the summer
The epidemic situation continues to improve, and the incidence of coronavirus positive situations is declining. This was stated by the Minister of Health Vladimír Lengvarský at a briefing after the government meeting.
Furthermore, the positivity of the tested decreases. The current level of around 24 percent is half that of a few weeks ago. Almost all sequenced samples are of the omicron BA2 type. The number of trips is constantly decreasing.
Hospital admissions are also declining, with current hospitals admitting an average of 75 patients per day. At the same time, coronavirus is a secondary diagnosis of these hospitalized patients. The incidence of over 300 positive is only in two districts, namely in Senec and Bratislava. In other districts, the incidence is at.
According to the Minister of Health, the abolition of respirators will not have a significant effect on the epidemic situation. The situation in Europe continues to stabilize with a declining trend, which is why the Minister considers the forecast to be positive in the summer months.
Survival in Slovakia rose again, COVID-19 was the fourth most common cause and every deviation died

More on the topic: Coronavirus
“The epidemic situation in Slovakia has significantly improved since the beginning of the year, but it started to rise again in March. The higher excess mortality has caused an ever-increasing number of deaths from COVID-19 infection, but also a significant increase in deaths from respiratory diseases or infectious and parasitic diseases than the five-year average before the pandemic, “ said Zuzana Podmanická, director of the Department of Population Statistics of the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic.
Each deviation was subject to COVID-19
In terms of causes of death, according to statistics, a higher number of people who died as a result of the COVID-19 infection persisted in March. A total of 614 people died of the new virus in March, the most this year.
“Although their number decreased by more than three quarters year-on-year, everyone deviated accordingly and accounted for 11 percent of all deaths,” stressed that the COVID-19 infection was the fourth most common cause of death in March.
It was preceded by circulatory system diseases (42 percent), tumors (18 percent) and respiratory diseases (12 percent).
One region had the worst situation
According to the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, the increased number of deaths during March persisted in all eight regions of Slovakia. The worst situation was in the Trenčín region.
