The Switzerland County baseball team achieves two major victories at home
The Switzerland County Pacers college baseball team notched up two major wins in the past week.
County Gallatin
Last Wednesday, April 20, Switzerland County defeated Gallatin County 10-6.
The visiting Wildcats took an early lead and scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but the Pacers responded immediately, denting the scoreboard with four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a lead they would never give up.
The Pacers extended their lead with three more runs late in the second; and singles runs in the third, fifth, and sixth.
Gallatin County scored a run atop fourth and two more atop seventh, but Switzerland County stayed strong and deserved the win.
At the plate: Roman Hite led the offensive attack and went 3-on-3, including a brace. He hit three runs and stole two bases and also recorded a walk.
Kaleb Koons was 2-for-2 with an RBI and three runs scored. He also drew a pair of walks and stole three bases. Bryce Turner was 1-for-3 with a double and a run made with a walk.
Jackson Sparks had an interesting night at the plate, going 0-for-2 but getting hit twice on a pitch, driving on a run and also having a stolen base.
Cam Craig was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a run made, and he also stole a base. Ryan Hughes drew a walk in three plate appearances and drove in one run; Drew Chatham had two walks and a stolen base; and Austin Bosaw drew a walk and added a stolen base. Ben Hicks canceled an RBI when he was hit by a pitch.
On the mound, Chatham started but only pitched one inning and allowed three runs from three hits. Koons took over and fielded five innings, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out three and allowing two walks to claim the win.
Caleb Ridener threw 2/3 of the 7th, allowing a hit and two runs (one earned) and giving up three walks; and Turner finished the game by pitching the final 1/3 of an inning and ending things with a strikeout.
New Washington
On Thursday night, April 21, the Pacers hosted New Washington and achieved an 8-3 win.
The Pacers got all the offense they needed by the end of the second and scored five runs. After the Mustangs scored one run at the top of the third, Switzerland County responded with two more at the bottom of the fourth. Both teams scored in the fifth individual runs; and New Washington added a run atop the seventh.
Roman Hite continued his hot hitting going 2-for-2 with two walks at the plate. He scored two runs and hit two more, and also stole two bases.
Bryce Turner was officially 1-1 at the plate, but he also pulled two walks and was hit by a pitch. Turner had two runs and one run in the game, as well as stealing two bases.
Jackson Sparks was 1-on-3 with a double and he drove in three runs in that critical second inning as well.
Kaleb Koons finished the night 2-on-3 with a run on and an RBI; Trace Johnson was 1-on-1 with one run made and one stolen base; and Austin Bosaw was 1-for-2 with a run made, an RBI, a stolen base and a tie.
Johnson started on the mound and went 2 2/3rds innings, allowing for a deserved run with no hits allowed, but he gave up four walks and picked up two strikeouts.
Zane Smith went 2 1/3 innings, hitting out three and allowing two walks and two hits. He gave up a deserved run.
Craig then finished the game with two innings of work on the mound, allowing for a deserved run while picking up a strikeout and a walk.
