The gas representative spoke: How is Slovakia doing with gas and we are worried ?!
The state and companies operating in the gas industry are doing their best so that Slovak citizens do not experience a shortage of natural gas during the next winter.
Among other things, Slovakia has a reserve of about 500 million cubic meters (m3), which is intended only for households and critical infrastructure, so households don’t have to worry about gas suppliesRichard Kvasňovský, Executive Director of the Slovak Gas and Oil Association (SPNZ), told TASR.
“From the point of view of infrastructure, it will be important that the Slovak-Polish gas interconnection is completed, which will open the possibility for Slovakia to supply from northern Europe from the Swinoujscie LNG terminal and for Norwegian gas.” reminded Kvasňovský. According to the head of SPNZ, another 500 million m3 of natural gas, which is approximately one tenth of Slovakia’s total consumption, could come to Slovakia from the Mediterranean region in the coming months, where tankers should be anchored with such liquefied gas for the Slovak gas industry (SPP).
Possible direct supplies from the North Sea area can also contribute to natural gas sources, as well as support for own gas extraction, which could be used in a time horizon of three to four years of around 500 million m3 per year. It is also important to develop the production of biomethane and hydrogen, which have the potential to green the gas industry. “It is for biomethane projects that were supposed to start drawing funds from the recovery plan this year, which we clearly welcome,” added Kvasňovský.
For the time being, supplies of Russian natural gas to Slovakia continue without interruption, but the Russian gas company Gazprom has already stopped deliveries to Poland and Bulgaria, which have refused to pay for gas in rubles. Most EU countries, including Slovakia, hold a similar position.
