As a result of Russia’s attack on Ukraine, European states have begun to discuss more how dependence on Russian gas supplies can be ruled out as soon as possible. However, according to the chairman of the Committee of the National Council for Economic Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Petr Kremský (OĽaNO), we have not prepared an action plan.
However, this may be a problem, because Russia has already stopped gas supplies to Poland and Bulgaria. This is a country that has not agreed to pay for Russian gas in rubles.
Kremský claims that Slovakia’s action plan to get rid of its dependence on Russian gas must take clear steps on how the state will continue in the situation. It should therefore be clear how it supports the construction of renewable resources, the use of geothermal energy, energy savings or the development of its own natural gas extraction.
The fact that we do not have an action plan in place was discussed at an extraordinary committee meeting after Russia joined from the gas of two European states. Slovakia should pay the next installment for gas from Russia on May 20. However, Kremský did not say whether Slovakia had set up an account for payments in Russian currency in connection with this.
