“It would be extremely helpful.” reinforce request for arms to Portugal and support for candidacy to the European Union
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba reinforced the request made earlier by President Voldymyr Zelensky for Portugal to supply arms to his country and support Kiev’s candidacy for the European Union (EU).
In an interview with ‘SIC’, the official said “Portugal’s clear position in supporting Ukraine at the United Nations. Thanks for the support of Portugal in the attempt to collaborate with Russia. But,,, weapons, is to provide Ukraine with all the most important things”, he stressed.
“In this sense, we shared our shopping list with Portugal, which includes, among others, purchased tanks, armored vehicles. It would be extremely helpful if Portugal could supply us with some, so that Europe’s extreme western flank will help Europe’s extreme eastern flank to defend all of Europe from Russian attack.”
At the same time, Kuleba added, “another important action that we expect from Portugal is its support in granting Ukraine the country of candidate country for accession to the EU”, he said by ‘SIC’.
The Ukrainian official also thanked the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, for an attempt to mediate the conflict, expressing the hope that now that Russia collaborates with him in the withdrawal of civilians from Mariupol, as well as committing to do so.
It is recalled that this is not the first time that Ukraine has made a similar request to Portugal. In the week, his speech passed by videoconference in the Portuguese Parliament, Zelen also called for heavy weapons and during the speech of the conclusions to Russia.
“I ask, with military force, a strong presence, also strong, with specific support from the State of Sousa, Marcelo Rebelo, and the Prime Minister, António Costa.
The President of Ukraine also insistently asked that Portugal and the process for his country support the European Union and that it use its influence in Portuguese-speaking countries, which are on the side of the Ukrainians.
“Ukraine is already the European Union (…) When this issue moves towards, I ask you, I ask you once again, to support us in this sky”, insisted Volodymyr Zesky.
