At the same time, however, the latest ranking shows a small decline of Greek universities. A total of 12 Greek universities were found among the 2,000, with the University of Athens being the first. However, with the exception of two who climbed a few places, the other ten lost some ground. American universities keep the scepter, with Harvard first of all. In particular, the CWUR ranking is published for the consecutive year and was based on the evaluation and rating of 19,788 universities worldwide, from which the best 2,000 stood out. According to the announcement of the University of Athens that published the ranking data yesterday, EKPA occupies the 275th place, remaining in 1.4% of the best universities in the world, and in the top 300 universities for the third consecutive year.

At the same time, it occupies the first place among the twelve Greek institutions included in the ranking, with the AUTh in the second place in Greece and the 417th in the world, the NTUA in the third place and in the 558th place in the world, the University of Ioannina in the fourth place and the 709th in the world. while the top five of Greek universities closes with the University of Crete which is in 736th place worldwide.

However, as the table shows, ten of the twelve Greek universities in the ranking lost ground. Less are the institutions that are in the first places of the dozen (specifically they fell from 4 to 34 places) and more the last two. That is, the Harokopio University of Athens from position 1,581 in 2021-22 was found in position 1,674 in 2022-23 and the Technical University of Crete from position 1,713 in 2021-22 to position 1,854 in 2022-23. They gained ground – albeit slightly – only at the University of Thessaly (from position 1,103 to 1,059) and at the Agricultural University of Athens (from 1,662 to 1,652).

Internationally, the US tops the list with 335 universities and eight of them in the top-10. It is followed by China with 302, Britain with 94 and France with 77. At the top of the world ranking is Harvard, while Cambridge, which is ranked fourth in the world, is the leading public university in this ranking for the eighth consecutive year . .

The CWUR methodology has seven objective and robust indicators grouped into four areas for ranking universities globally: the quality of education (accounting for 25% of the total score), the employment of graduates (25%), the quality of the faculty (10 %) and research performance (40%). According to the rector of the foundation, Thanos Dimopoulos, he occupies the 226th place in the world in terms of research performance at EKPA.
