Strong rebound in student work in Belgium since the Easter holidays
Student work has fully recovered over the Easter holidays, even to higher levels than before the pandemic, such is the conclusion of an analysis by Randstad Research, based on the number of students working at the service provider and released on Tuesday.
During the last Easter holidays, an average of 16,000 students per week worked for the Randstad group. “This represents a 33% increase over last year“, can we read in the press release. At the time, the average was about 12,000 students per week. At the lowest point in 2020, there were only 5,200. In the peak year of 2019, they averaged 14,000 per week.“, recalls Randstad.
Students who worked during the Easter holidays achieved on average the same performance as in 2021 with 24 hours per student and one hour more than the record year 2019 (23 hours).
“At the end of last year, we had already noticed a half increase in the number of students in employment compared to the record year 2019. This situation is explained by the combination of the general scarcity on the work , the numerous cases of quarantine in companies and the traditional end-of-year peak in many sectors. The shortage has not eased and sectors that traditionally employ many students, such as amusement parks, cinemas and the hospitality industry, are once again operating at full capacity.», Analyzes Sébastien Cosentino, spokesperson at Randstad Group. If this trend occurs during the summer holidays, we are heading for an all-time high“, he punctuates.
