A German family got into trouble while hiking on holiday in Austria while climbing to the summit of the Carinthian Storschitz. Together with their nine-month-old baby and three dogs, the family was stuck in the storm and wind – and had to make an emergency call. The rescue operation is now expensive for German tourists.
Rescued family has to shell out thousands of euros for the rescue operation
After the rescue operation, it was checked whether the group had acted negligently – because in this case they should pay for the operation themselves, reports the “Kronen Zeitung”. According to police statements, that is exactly what is now certain: the costs for helicopter use as well as rescue and working hours of the alpine police are to be borne by the holidaymaker – a total of 3558 euros!

Daramic rescue in the storm – baby suffers from hypothermia
The German holidaymaker couple aged 27 and 30 made their way to the summit on April 7 with their baby in the back carrier and their three dogs, reported the Bad Eisenkappel mountain rescue service on Facebook. But on the descent, the hikers got stuck in the waist-deep snow – and had to turn back. When her strength left her, the group called the mountain rescue service.
The mountaineering family was partly in trousers briefly on the mountain. “You just didn’t expect that there would still be so much snow up there, because it’s snow-free down there,” said Gernot Koboltschnig, local manager of the Bad Eisenkappel mountain rescue service, to the “Kleine Zeitung”.
After the rescue by helicopter was initially unsuccessful due to the violent storm, the mountain rescue service was still able to take in the tourists during another search flight, reports the Bad Eisenkappel mountain rescue service on Facebook. “Father and toddler, who were only carried in the back carrier and not protected against a body, were already very cold!” (ie)
