“YoungCaritas” starts “LaufWunder” for the Ukraine
Innsbruck, April 22, 2022 (KAP) In the diocese of Innsbruck, the starting signal for the “LaufWunder” campaign was given on Friday. With the benefit run of “YoungCaritas”, the youth platform of Caritas, schoolchildren want to collect donations for the people in Ukraine. To do this, the young people look for aprons in the sponsor who give them a fixed amount of money for each lap they run. The pupils of the primary school in Zams/Rifenal were the first this year to collect laps for the benefit run and thus opened the series of events.
This year, the “LaufWunder” in the truest sense of the word is very popular, emphasized “YoungCaritas”, which is due to the fact that this year’s campaign is all about emergency aid in Ukraine. “The children and young people have many questions about the war. Like us adults, they feel powerless and want to do something about it,” stressed the Caritas director of the Diocese of Tyrol, Elisabeth Rathgeb. “Participating in the ‘LaufWunder’ enables them to become active and contribute something meaningful,” she said with conviction.
According to Rathgeb, Caritas Tirol is trying to give the people arriving from Ukraine the best possible support. “We also help at the Romanian border, where Caritas feeds refugees and provides them with places to sleep.” From the 5th grade onwards, the donations go to a domestic project (Caritas Lerncafé Imst and Reutte and Lernhilfe Innsbruck) and a foreign project (School daycare center Satu Mare, Romania) in addition to the Ukraine emergency aid. The young people can choose a project or split up the donations.
Numerous schools in Tyrol have agreed to organize a “LaufMunder”. There are currently 56 classes from 13 schools in the regions of Reutte, Innsbruck, Imst, Landeck, Schwaz and Innsbruck Land. (Outputs: IBAN AT79 3600 0000 0067 0950, password: Ukraine, or online: www.caritas-tirol.at)
