Strike partial stations of the Lisbon Metro | Lisbon Metro
The Lisbon Metro stations have been closed since 6 am due to the partial strike of workers, according to Anabela Carvalheira, from the Federation of Transport and Communications Unions (Fectrans).
“Like the previous associations, adhesion to the strike, which covers the operational sector and train drivers, is high,” the unionist told Lusa, adding that the metro stations are closed.
Anabela Carvalheira also highlighted that workers remain determined in the fight for better working conditions.
Metropolitano de Lisboa workers are on a new partial strike today, between 5 am and 10 am, so circulation should only resume from 10:30 am.
Normally, the metro runs between 6:30 am and 1 am.
The workers of Metropolitano de Lisboa had already carried out a partial strike (5am-9am) on March 11th and 18th and April 14th, alleging the “lack of working conditions in the operational area of the machinists”.
As Anabela Carva, who was summoned, told Lusa last week, the strike on the 14th of April and today based on the same of the two partial strikes held in March.
“It’s a continuation of the previous fight. It has to do with the working conditions of the machinists’ operational area and the heads of the central command post. The union, still unable to reach an agreement, which motivates the continuation of the struggle, justified the struggle.
According to Anabela Carvalheira, the unions want the company to “put into practice a series of principles defended with workers for a long time”.
In January, train drivers and dispatchers from the Metropolitano de Lisboa sent a letter to the company’s board of directors with the new forms of struggle, such as the strike, if their claims were not met.
At the time, they gave the company a period of eight days to give an answer and identify solutions, and there are about 300 in the universe of machinist workers, people, supervisors and traction inspectors.
