In Amsterdam-Noord they want to make hockey a popular sport: “This means many new friends”
Making hockey a real popular sport, that is the goal of the new hockey club AHC Noorderlicht in Amsterdam-Noord. Through subsidy, the membership fee is lower than other hockey clubs in the city, parents pay no more than 300 euros a year, which is not much for hockey.
Laura van Helvert, founder of Noorderlicht, is happy that her brand new club is a good reflection of society. “It is strange that the diversity at hockey clubs is still so low, because these children can play fantastic hockey”.

“We get materials from the Hockey Foundation, so the children get shoes, a mouthguard and a stick,” says Van Helvert. The Hockey Foundation helps volunteers to set up new hockey associations. They have a goal: 30 new ones with 10,000 children’s hockey clubs in ten years.
The club from North also works together with the city pass and Youth Fund Sport† This payment contributes to the subscription at the sports club. This keeps costs low and they hope at Noorderlicht that every little Amsterdammer can develop at the club.
The club is not full yet, so new members can sign up.
