This is how Danica has made her city apartment seem bigger
Danica and Rasmus wanted to be in the city, but at the same time wanted to be surrounded by nature and water. Therefore, Islands Brygge in Copenhagen was a natural place to settle down when the couple moved from Aarhus. Islands Brygge is close to the protected green area Amager Fælled, the water and the city.
– We rent an apartment here, and it suits us well. Yes, we are throwing money out the window every month and we are not going to reap the benefits of a galloping housing market. But the children are happy, and so are we. This gives us freedom. We are not bound by houses and loans, and we can quickly “pull up the tent pegs” and move if we get new ideas or dreams, says Danica.
All the walls for Dorte were white – so she moved into an apartment
The couple has lived in the apartment on Islands Brygge for seven years, and although Danica certainly envisions that the family can continue to live there for a long time, but also with the idea of taking the dream of moving abroad seriously.
– We would like to live in the US for a couple of years. As a self-employed person, I can work anywhere, says Danica.
Both she and Rasmus come from Aarhus, where they lived with their son Sylvester and had busy full-time jobs until 2014.
– I was incredibly tired of the fact that I almost never saw Sylvester, who was tiny then. I was sent home from work and felt like I was missing out on everything important. We abruptly agreed to cancel everything, and the next day we decided to move to Copenhagen. We just did it, she says.
She currently works as a full-time influencer and lifestyle blogger. After living with her mother for the first time, after much effort, they managed to find their own place.
The contract was signed even though the family had not even put the apartment up. It became a new life of 98 square meters.
Jeanett has lived in 15 different places: – Each home gets a new style
The couple has decided to move to a larger apartment with more rooms, but has quickly dropped the idea.
– We also want to be creative and get the best out of the square meters we have. We could have paid 4000 kroner more a month to have another room, but we would rather work a little less and have “air in the budget” to be able to go out to eat or travel together instead of spending money on living bigger, says Danica.
She says regularly with things and sells away all the time, so it hopes not to quit the apartment. She decorates with bright tones and lots of flea finds, small zones and creates. And thanks to the 20 square meter terrace, which makes the area of the home significantly larger in the summer, does not feel like the 98 square meters, even though the family has grown to four since they lived in Aarhus.
– Our own expectations of how we should live and live can sometimes be tense for us. Everyone expects a child to have his own room, but must it be so? For now, it works fine for us to live like this, and since we have the terrace and outdoor area here, it is easy to get out and it does not feel cramped. On the contrary, we have a lot of freedom.
