President of the Senate begins official visit to Portugal with the signing of an agreement and two meetings

According to the official agenda of Senator Rodrigo Pacheco, to which Lusa had access, the leader of the Senate of Brazil meets with the Portuguese President of the Republic, in Belém, on Friday, at 3 pm, one hour after meeting he will have with the President of the Assembly of the Republic, Augusto Santos Silva.

On the two-day trip to Portugal, which starts today, Tiradentes’ holiday in Brazil, Rodrigo Pacheco will be accompanied by Senator Randolfe Rodrigues, chairman of the Special Commission Curator of the Senate for the Bicentennial of Independence of the South American country, a theme to which he will dedicate your first day of official visit.

The Senate delegation will spend the day in Coimbra, at the invitation of the mayor, José Manuel Silva, meeting with local authorities and special guests, at a lunch.

In the afternoon, the senators visited the University of Coimbra, where they signed a Technical Cooperation Agreement between the Federal Senate of Brazil, the University of Coimbra and the Associação Portugal Brasil 200 anos (Apbra).

The project “2000 years, 2000 years, 2000 important books”, one of the most curated ever of Portuguese-language literature, is officially part of the official commemorations of the bicentennial of the Independence of Brazil, according to a note from the Coimbra City Council.

The initiative by Apbra, which has several publishing personalities to prepare a 200 books list that Brazilians and the world should read to better understand Brazil, at the origin of the signing of the international cooperation agreement, says a note from the municipality.

This will be the second time that Rodrigo Pacheco will meet in Lisbon with Marcelo Rebelo e Sousa. In 2021, on his previous trip to participate in the Lisbon Legal Forum, the president of the Brazilian Senate was also received by the Portuguese head of state.
