CityRocks, Hungary’s largest rock band, turned four years old
In Hungary, on April 21, 2018, in Szeged, participants and spectators experienced for the first time the power of hundreds of instrumentalists and singers gathering for a concert. So far, CityRocks has given concerts in Szeged, Kecskemét, Dunaújváros and Transylvania. Today, CityRocks has become the second largest rock band in Europe.
During the sound setup, we were struck by what kind of social experience we really brought together. While organizing, we didn’t even think of launching a big band and a special series of events around the world that already brings together a community of thousands of musicians. – said Zsolt Révész, the creative manager of CityRocks.
Numerous domestic and international media outlets have reported on the production. The videos and photos of the Dóm tér concert reached millions of views in almost no time. Billy Idol himself shared an adaptation of his song White Wedding.
A few weeks after the event in Szeged, the leaders of several cities were already looking for us to organize CityRocks with them. The aim of the giant orchestra was in Kecskemét, Dunaújváros and Bonchida in Transylvania. Unfortunately, due to the epidemic, we missed our concerts in 2020, and in 2021 they only have to be organized according to the epidemiological regulations, but 400-500 musicians came to play together. – said chief organizer Ferenc Gajda.
Today, both domestic and international media partners receive more than 150 million views of the CityRocks video. CityRocks took third place in the category “Hungarian Grand Concert of the Year” in the public vote of koncert.hu in 2018 and second in 2019. The founder of the star band, Mike Shinoda, also congratulated and shared the adaptation of the song Linkin Park New Divide, which was performed at the Dunaújváros concert.
We don’t want to compete with either the Italian Rockin1000 or the Russian Rock’n’mob team. For us, community building is paramount. The opportunity for domestic and foreign musicians to meet and form friendships. The success of the production is due to them and our staff of about 50 people Said Ferenc Gajda.
The city that hosts CityRocks is becoming the capital of community, live music. One of the main goals of the production is to work with all local initiatives, be it the bands, schools, choirs or cultural institutions.
Their goal of promoting live music is to include a lot, because they think that the younger they are and the more vibrant the children are, the better they can experience collaboration based on mutual respect. Music teaches that.
CityRocks will also be making a special concert in 2022, in addition to the usual hundreds of people’s rock music flashmob. With a small orchestra of 120-140 people, on a special, multi-level stage system, together with wind instruments, taiko drummers and a children’s choir, he will hold a two-hour evening concert at the Dunaújváros Stadium on August 6, 2022. This year’s rockflashmob venue will be announced soon.
