Antwerp Court – Corporate Court is looking into debt mountain at the bankrupt company of El Kaouakibi – Belgium
(Belga) The Antwerp company court settles a case involving the bankrupt event company Point Urbain, targeting Flemish Member of Parliament Sihame El Kaouakibi and her partner Erika Nguyen. The bankruptcy trustee of Point Urbain wants to recover various debts of the company from the couple, not simply because they are directors but because they have personal mistakes.
Point Urbain was the company behind the event location JJ House – the former Jacob Jordaenshuis – in the center of Antwerp. It was co-founded by El Kaouakibi who later left to pursue her political career, and Nguyen was a business. It was declared bankrupt in February last year, according to a company press release due to the corona crisis. However, the appointed bankruptcy trustee believes that El Kaouakibi and Nguyen have butter on their heads. For example, a loan of more than 700,000 euros would have disappeared and a couple who wanted to celebrate their wedding in JJ House did not get their advance back. The court will have to repay the result of El Kaouakibi and Nguyen all that money, in total more than one million euros. (Belgium)
