1.9 million euros for sustainable commuter traffic in Antwerp | Antwerp
AntwerpFlemish Minister for Mobility and Open Works Lydia Peeters (Open Vld) will cost 1.9 million euros in 2022 for the shuttle bus, bicycle bus and I-BUS in Antwerp.
“With this subsidy, we will continue to support sustainable commuter traffic, specifically applied to the needs in the port,” says Peeters. “It concerns collective transport solutions for employees who are working in locations that are otherwise difficult to reach by public transport.” In this way, Peeters wants to reduce stocks and CO2 emissions.
The shuttle bus and bicycle bus are an initiative of the port authority and the Maatschappij Linkerscheldeoever. They offer port employees the opportunity to commute to and from work without a car. The shuttle bus has been running for about ten years and was expanded a few years ago with the bicycle bus: a shuttle bus that offers cyclists an extra crossing of the Scheldt free of charge through the Tijsmans and/or Liefkenshoek tunnel.
The I-BUS of Industrie-bus is an initiative of the Voka Chamber of Commerce Antwerp-Waasland. It is a free shuttle bus with employees in the port of Antwerp can travel to and from work.
With the financial support, the Flemish government wants to make sustainable commuter traffic and industrial zones in Flemish ports accessible to people without a car.
