The Czech Republic’s evergreen is coming to Neumarkt – Südtirol News
Bolzano – The field of participants at this year’s Dolomitencup is complete. In addition to the EHC Biel-Bienne, the Augsburger Panther and the Eisbären Berlin, Dynamo Pardubice will also be present at the 16th edition of the prestigious preparatory tournament. From August 12th to 14th, the Czech long-running favorite fought for the first time in history for the pot in the Würtharena in Neumarkt/South Tyrol.
72 years is a very long time. Especially in sports. Therefore, it is more remarkable that Dynamo Pardubice has been playing ice hockey in the highest Czech league for 72 years now. In 1950, the club rose from the 92,000-inhabitant city on the Elbe to the upper house and has never been relegated since then. For this reason alone, Dynamo Pardubice is one of the most traditional clubs in the Czech Republic, which is also evident in the mature fan culture. While many clubs from the Czech Extraliga were struggling with a drop in spectators this year due to Corona, Pardubice could always count on its “seventh man”.
Dynamo Pardubice has won a total of six championship titles. Three of them in the Czechoslovak championship, which Pardubice belonged to until 1993, three more in the Czech Extraliga, which was launched that same year. The last big triumph dates back to 2012.
Difficult season and an old friend
Currently, however, there is disappointment in the camp of the Czech long-runner. In mid-March they were eliminated in the playoff quarterfinals against České Budějovice. At Pardubice, who finished the regular season in 5th position, there were already first personal consequences, because coach Richard Král had to pack his bags.
Pardubice’s team consists mainly of Czech players, but one of the imports should be familiar to many ice hockey fans in South Tyrol. Powerhouse Dennis Robertson touched concrete on the defensive today. The Canadian had been one of the cornerstones at HC Bozen for the past two years before moving to Pardubice, where he has a contract until the summer of 2024.
In addition to Dynamo Pardubice, EHC Biel-Bienne (NLA), Augsburger Panther (DEL) and Eisbären Berlin (DEL) have also confirmed their participation. Thus, the starting field for the tournament (12th to 14th August) is complete.
