Rt rises to 1.01 in mainland Portugal
The transmissibility index of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus rose from 0.95 to 1.01 in mainland Portugal, with the North region showing the highest value (1.08), the National Institute of Health indicated this Wednesday. Doctor Ricardo Jorge (INSA).
According to the INSA weekly report on the evolution of the low number of infections in the country, the average value of the Rt between 11 and 15 April is 1.01 in mainland Portugal, being the lowest (1.00) at the national level. .
In the previous report, released on April 13, the Rt – which estimates the number of secondary cases of infection resulting from each person carrying the virus – at 0.94 nationally and 0.95 on the mainland.
Between January 21 and February 15, this indicator had a marked change to 0.71.

The INSA data also refer that two regions have an Rt above the threshold of 1, the North with 1.08 and the Center with 1.02, which indicates an increasing trend while the Alentejo is in the 1 .00
Lisbon and Vale do Tejo have an Rt of 0.97, the Algarve of 0.92, the Azores of 0.93 and Madeira of 0.86, the INSA report says, adding that Portugal registers an average of five days of 8,931 daily cases of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus infection.
“With the exception of the North region, which has an incidence rate of more than 960 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days”, the document says.
The Covid-19 disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
