Prague 2 will plant 22 trees in the streets, planting will cost CZK 1.3 million
The City Hall of Prague 2 plans to plant new trees in the streets in its alleys. A total of 22 trees will be planted. The aim is to improve the environment and help cool the city in the summer months. The planting will cost 1.3 million crowns, said town hall spokeswoman Andrea Zoulová. Every year, the town hall spends about CZK 20 million on greenery. In the city center, tree lines are being restored, new forests are being created on the outskirts of the city.
“Restoring greenery is absolutely key to maintaining a healthy environment, especially in the city. Growing greenery in the streets and parks also helps cool the area on hot summer days when there is a lack of rainfall. If we want our citizens and their children to live in better and healthier environment, we must also do something about it, “said Mayor Alexandra Udženija (ODS).
New trees will appear, for example, in Budečská Street, Šumavská, Španělská, Lublaňská, U Vodárny or in Moravská, Římská, Třebízského and Vnislavov. Sinks, elms, hawthorns, acacias, maples and lindens will be planted.
This year, the town hall had 65 trees planted in the parks, where maples, lindens, cherries, hornbeams, ash and coniferous larch, pine and fir were added. New trees are, among others, in the parks on Karlovské předmostí, Folimance, Havlíčkovy and Riegrovy sady.
Planting in the streets is complicated by a large number of utilities in the sidewalks. Therefore, most of the planted trees appear mainly on the edge of the metropolis, where new forests are emerging. Prague foresters have planned to plant about 150,000 tree seedlings this spring, including in the new Lítožnice forest, which is being established between the Běchovice, Dubeč and Koloděje districts.
