E-commerce giants have found another way to deliver their customers to major cities. In Lyon, Amazon, AliExpress and FedEx use a courier company. You may not know it, but they are already circulating all over town.
Oscar Grammatica rings at a resident’s rue Lavoisier, in the 3rd arrondissement of Lyon, in Part-Dieu. This is the last delivery of his tour. The 25-year-old has been delivering for a few weeks for Coursier.frthe company in charge of Amazon, AliExpress or FedEx parcel delivery.
Nearly 700 Amazon parcels delivered every day
All on board cargo bikes: “I only work in the afternoon and do two races a day. A race represents approximately 60 parcels. On book between 500 and 700 packages per day only for Amazon. »
Coursier.fr is developing at full speed in Lyon. After getting into bike delivery in Paris in July 2020, the company is betting on the capital of Gaul with already 120 couriers roaming the streets.
Couriers on permanent contracts
“We are present in 10 cities in France with 1,000 couriers, all on permanent contracts”, specifies Gabriel Lonne, the one who dared to launch Coursier.fr in this mode of delivery, while the company only delivers to companies specializing in luxury in Paris before Covid-19.
In Lyon, 25 couriers work every day for Amazon, 15 for Fedex (soon to be 30), and 40 for AliExpress. Gabriel Lonne indicates that AliExpress no longer wants to go through Chronopost: “they want a more controlled service provider, with more advantageous prices. »
Amazon soon delivered throughout Lyon by bike?
Both AliExpress and FedEx packages are delivered citywide, which is not yet the case with Amazon. “We are doing the 3rd, the 6th and a small part of Villeurbanne, but slowly we hope that Amazon will choose us to do all of Lyon. Even though they are known for not putting all their eggs in one basket. »
Gabriel Lonne is surprised by the means put in by Amazon, which does not always have good press: “Objectively, they are by far the most framed, the most invested in the green fleet. It creates jobs, decarbonizes fleets and they pay pretty well,” he smiles.
Lessons also given at home
Coursier.fr also delivers groceries and meals with around ten delivery people for Cajoo, around thirty for Frichti and around ten for Gorillas. Present in Lyon for more than a year, the company continues to expand its fleet.
“We supply the cargo bike and the telephone to the couriers,” explains Gabriel Lonne. They are paid the Smic and, with bonuses, you can go up to 250 euros more. »
The system totally suits Oscar Grammatica: “There’s a real ethic behind it all and it allows me to make money before going abroad. “A delivery method that changes delivery people into auto-entrepreneurs, who sometimes suffer from dubious working conditions…
