Villach – Wednesday, April 20th, 2022, 12:34 p.m
VSV has brought goalie Jean-Philippe Lamoureux back to Draustadt.
The American has been signed as a “preferred candidate” for the post in goal, the ICE Hockey League club announced on Wednesday. Lamoureux has signed a two-year contract.
The 37-year-old played for Salzburg last season, and the champions had already put their trust in Atte Tolvanen in the playoff final. Lamoureux already looked after the case for the VSV from 2012 to 2016.
The US veteran played in Salzburg for three years and his strong performance played a large part in the success of the club, with whom he celebrated his second title in Austria in April of this year.
In his first Salzburg season, 2019/20, he was awarded the Regular Season MVP as the best player in the league. The most recent championship season also ended as the third-best goaltender in the ICE Hockey League. Overall, Lamoureux has played 103 games for the Red Bulls.
Nicolas Wieser joins the Graz 99ers
With Nicolas Wieser, another player is also saying goodbye to Salzburg. The 24-year-old from Villach joins the ICE league competitor Graz 99ers with immediate effect.
Wieser came to the Red Bull Ice Hockey Academy in the 2014/15 season and played his first game with the Salzburg pros in the 2019/20 season. Last season, the 24-year-old from Villach made six appearances in the group stage of the Champions Hockey League and recorded five more appearances in the ICE Hockey League.
In addition to the current championship title in the ICE Hockey League, Wieser was twice Austrian champion of the AHL (2019 and 2020), once Austrian U20 champion and champion of the Erste Bank Young Stars League (2016) with the Red Bull Hockey Juniors.
