Introducing the latest electric motorcycle: the Flux Primo

Sugar Mizzy April 20, 2022

Three main reasons for “e-off-road”

“There are three compelling reasons why you want an electric off-road motorcycle” explains Marko Ukota. “First, noise is the biggest enemy of sport. In Belgium, the world cradle of motocross, there were around 60 MX tracks in the 1970s. There are only 6 of them now. And we see the same trend all over the world. Second, engine maintenance requires skill, is very expensive and time consuming. All the time and money you could spend riding. And third: the driveability of electric drive combined with smart technology has so much potential that I would never forgive myself if I didn’t put all of myself into the ultimate creation … Co-creating the future of my passion that has given me so much in the last decade. With electric propulsion, off-road motorcycles can be extended to people and places that are currently out of reach, so it could become as rich as e-bikes are today. “

Primo prvi ‘first’

The Flux Performance team consists of four Slovenian experts who combine NASA’s award-winning knowledge of electric propulsion systems in aviation (yes, flying electric ultralight aircraft!) And experience in motorsport to create new level electric motorcycles.

In a true startup tradition, they developed their first prototype in the garage, called Primo (which means ‘first’ in Italian). However, it is not just about assembling ready-made components. They designed and customized the entire battery, including electronics, control unit, water-cooled drive and transmission, and software that enables operation.

The end result is a motocross bike with a maximum power of 85 hp, a replaceable battery with more capacity than any other MX bike on the market, while maintaining comparative weight. The power is adjustable via a smartphone connection, so you can enjoy the driving experience regardless of your skill level.

It also has an active regenerative brake, which means you charge the battery during the last brake.

An interesting feature that will be appreciated by more experienced cyclists is the virtual clutch. It basically mimics how a traditional clutch works without incurring additional costs, complexity, and overheating problems.

The vehicle control unit is full of sensory inputs and intelligence. “My 450 is too slow, no one said ever” remark Ukota. The real challenge is consistently gaining power on the ground, here the electric drive provides more opportunities than any petrol bike could. Testing will provide data and allow the development of specific programs to increase performance, security and entertainment.

The Primo is not yet a production motorcycle. It is the first prototype, development tool and technology platform. It proves what the team can do in the garage, and serves as a foundation for the goal-oriented development of a production motorcycle.

“We want YOU to be our test driver!”

Why isn’t there an exact volume number yet? “E-mobility is full of false, sometimes stupid promises,” Ukota explains. The Flux Performance team wants to be honest with their customers and publish the numbers only after the bike has been tested by the public in real conditions.

This is another thing they will do differently as they will offer the public a chance to try out the Primo and incorporate their thoughts into the development of the production motorcycle.

That means YOU! They want you to express your opinion, making you actually part of the development process.

Flux Performance is currently compiling a list of those interested in creating a group of professional and amateur cyclists who will help test the prototype and create a successor to Primo. “There are so many accessories, ways and options we would like to try, not only with professional drivers, but also with actual customers, as their wishes are paramount. They will also have an unbiased testimony of how the bike works. ” says Ukota. Testing will begin this summer, and serial bikes are planned to be delivered in 2024 with a target price of € 12,000. Interested test riders can apply now www.fluxmoto.co.

The first model is a motocross bike, with it or soon after comes the versions for road enduro and supermoto.

Now you can also pre-order your production model with a refund of € 50. This will ensure that you will be first in line when the production model hits the market, and you will receive a special issue thanking you for being an early supporter. “Think of it as your voice, as you are sending a signal to investors that you want these products on the market and you believe in us to deliver them,” Ukota explains.
