12 12-39NG military training and reconnaissance aircraft purchased for the Hungarian Army Gáspár Maróth, Government Commissioner for Defense Development, writes Portfolio.hu.
Thus, the government will buy a total of 12 light jet aircraft manufactured by the Czech Aero Vodochody for the Hungarian Armed Forces, 8 of which will serve for the training of Gripen pilots and 4 for reconnaissance purposes, the newspaper writes. The commissioner said that the development of the reconnaissance machines would take place within the framework of a joint Czech-Hungarian research and development project.
The machines will arrive in Hungary from 2024. It was previously expected that this type of aircraft would be procured for the Hungarian Armed Forces as well, as the Hungarian pilots also conducted test flights with the aircraft. It is worth noting here that Aero Vodochody, the manufacturer of the machines, recently became the majority Hungarian owner.
For the time being, it is not known how the aircraft purchased by Hungary deviate from the “standard” version; this will be especially true with a welcome in connection with the reconnaissance type variant, which in the case of L-39NG, it is used for the first time in Hungary in such a setting.
