Egyptian film “Hamel al-Lakab” was chosen as the closing film at the Malmö Arab Film Festival
The Egyptian comedy film “Hamel al-Lakab” (Title Holder) has been selected as the closing film of the Swedish Malmö Arab Film Festival’s 12th edition on 9 May.
The film, which is currently being shown in Egyptian cinemas, premiered at Egypt’s Zamalek Cinema in February and premiered in 60 cinemas – it was even shown at the 11th edition of the Luxor African Film Festival.
It then received a wider release across the Arab world, premiered in the United Arab Emirates on February 9 – with the participation of its actors and crew including stars Hesham Maged and Mohamed Sallam, director Mohamed Hefzy, Tarek El Ganainy and Roaa Al-Madani and director Hesham Fathy. .
Hamel al-Lakab later premiered in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine and Jordan.
It follows the story of the married couple Yehia, a football player, and his wife Misk, a gynecologist. Despite their independent success, the two remain unable to get what they want most – a child. Yet their years of striving for a child have finally borne fruit through a true miracle: the catch? Yehia is the one who has become pregnant!
The film has some of the brightest stars in modern Egyptian film, with the likes of Dina al-Sherbiny, Mohamed Sallam, Hesham Maged (who also writes), Ahmed Fathy, Mohamed Tharwat, Donia Maher, Laila Ezzal-Arab and Emad Rashad.
Hamel al-Lakab is produced by Film Clinic in collaboration with RP Films, TVision and Saudi Arabia Pictures Group – its first production in Egypt.
