Discount on already cheap housing. Pirates in Prague push the government
Anyone who accommodates Ukrainian refugees and does not get paid for it can request a contribution of up to 12,000 from the state. However, it seems small to the Prague City Hall. So he wants to motivate tenants of city flats to let refugees live with them. And for that I will reduce their already cheap rent by up to 4,000.

As is well known, the Czech government will contribute to citizens who accommodate Ukrainian refugees in their homes free of charge. The condition is that this accommodation lasts at least 16 consecutive days during the calendar month. The benefit is intended only for natural persons and they do not have to be the owner of the property, so they may be tenants.
The contribution will amount to CZK 3,000 per accommodated person per calendar month, with a maximum benefit of 4 accommodated persons. Therefore, the best way is for someone to receive CZK 12,000 per household for a contribution. The benefit can be applied for from April 11, the application must be completed electronically, contributions will not be taxed or included in other limits and criteria.
The Prague City Hall has now also come up with its version, and residents of city flats will be able to improve. “We have approved a proposal that will allow households in city apartments to get a discount on rent if they accommodate Ukrainian refugees. A discount of CZK 1,000 will be provided per month for each Ukrainian person, with a maximum of CZK 4,000 per month for one apartment, ”states the municipality. Let us add that city flats are mostly rented at prices that are significantly below the level of market rents in Prague.

“The Council is thus responding to the government’s regulation on the solidarity contribution for households that house refugees. The government contribution of CZK 3,000 per month for each accommodated refugee with a limit of CZK 12,000 per month per household is considered insufficient by experts. The discount will be provided for the duration of the government order, ” then the municipality states on its website. Pirate councilor Adam Zábranský is responsible for housing policy at the municipality. With this step, Prague allegedly wants to motivate tenants of city flats to provide assistance to Ukrainian refugees. The council has previously called on the government to increase the contribution.
“Part of the city hostel in Zličín has been set aside for the accommodation of refugees, and for this purpose we are also preparing a hostel in Prague 9, which is now empty due to the planned overall reconstruction. Tenants of city flats can now accommodate refugees at home and receive a solidarity contribution from the state. Today’s decision of the council will help those of them who are willing to do so, but prevent them in this financial situation, “said Zábranský. According to the municipality, the discount will be provided to tenants on the basis of proof of receiving a solidarity contribution according to a government regulation, provided that the tenants report an increase in the number of persons in the household. Only natural persons with a valid lease agreement can apply for a rent discount.
