The Czechia granted Ukrainian refugees over 295,000 special visas – ČT24 – Czech Television

Sugar Mizzy April 19, 2022

The Ministry of the Interior informed on Twitter that it was specifically 295,616 special visas.

Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion receive temporary protection visas, which they stay in the Czech Republic for up to a year. At the same time, they have access to public health insurance, education, the labor market and are entitled to additional assistance, for example in accommodation.

Additional accommodation capacity

The city administration called on the state to provide the main capacity for war refugees from Ukraine. This was stated by Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates) after the meeting of the Prague Crisis Staff. He requires that proven long-term accommodation for Ukrainians available in other regions.

“I would really like to call on the Refugee Facilities Administration to provide all its free capacity so that the administration can network them and provide them to the regions to deal with this situation. It is really of the utmost importance, “said the mayor.

According to the management of Prague, other capacities can be prepared in military buildings. “We really want to avoid these people having to be in some tents,” said Mushroom.

Discount on rent

The Prague City Hall will provide tenants in their flats, who will accommodate Ukrainian refugees at home, with a discount on rent. The discount will be crowns per month for each accommodated person, but in the end four thousand crowns, thousands decided. The government has approved a contribution of three thousand crowns per person per month for people who accommodate refugees, with a limit of 12 thousand crowns per household.

“The provision of discounts is proposed for the duration of the government order,” said the municipality. To obtain a discount, tenants will have to prove that they are receiving a government allowance and announce an increase in the number of people living in the apartment according to the law. The relief applies only to natural persons with a valid contract who do not owe rent or are not in litigation with the city.

City councilor Adam Zábranský (Pirates) said that the discount was approved by the city in order to provide a government contribution of as much as 4,000 crowns, which he said was ideal. According to him, the city has unsuccessfully requested the introduction of a contribution of this amount. “The government did not do it, so we are de facto increasing it, at least for tenants of city flats,” the councilor added.

Nearly five million people have fled Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion less than two months ago. This is according to data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). More than 2.8 million of them went to Poland, the Polish border guard said.

There were 37 million people living in Ukraine before the war, not counting the Crimean peninsula annexed in 2014 in Russia and the territory under the control of pro-Russian separatists in the two self-proclaimed republics in the east of the country. In total, around 44 million people lived in Ukraine before February 24, including the occupied territories.
