Parents and 8-year-old son contract CO poisoning in Schaerbeek | Brussels
SchaerbeekTwo adults and their 8-year-old son became victims of CO intoxication in the Brussels municipality of Schaerbeek on Monday evening. The three residents were taken to hospital, but their injuries were not life-threatening.
It was the residents of an apartment in Rue Leopold Couroubre in Schaerbeek who themselves informed the emergency services at 10.10 pm on Monday evening because the mother and her 8-year-old son became nauseous in the bathroom. “The boy had lost consciousness,” said fire brigade spokesman Walter Derieuw. “The three residents were taken to hospital, but their lives were not in danger.”
According to the fire service, there was a problem with the water heater in the bathroom, there was a previous discharge of gasses and a design ventilation. The fire brigade also checked the installations in the other flats of the building and established a small gas leak at one of those installations. The building owner was asked to bring in a licensed technician to sort things out.
