Ostern in Grafenegg is always a good thing – so this time too, when pianist Fazil Say played his own works, but also Mozart with the Salzburgers in the auditorium.
Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A major, K. 414 was particularly beautiful: soulful, humorous, lively, just like the crucial A major Symphony, K. 201, conducted by concertmaster Gregory Ahss.
Say contributed Turkish accents with his chamber symphony and a sympathetic homage to the founder of the state Atatürk (“The Moved House”).
To get in the mood for the afternoon, the Lower Austrian Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Algerian-born conductor Yalda Zamani gave an international performance: with Mussorgsky, Smetana’s “Moldau” and a work by the Finn Kaija Saariaho.
Conclusion: Easter castle sounds, once again worthwhile.
