The Czech branch of Fridays for Future will take to the streets in Prague. The movement of high school climate activists does not like that despite the government’s program statement, when the new cabinet vowed to stop lignite mining in the Czech Republic after 2033, it is thinking of non-compliance due to the energy crisis. Fridays for Future have therefore announced a protest that will take place in early May in Prague.
Due to the energy security of the state, the Czech government began negotiations with coal miners on the possibilities of extending lignite mining. As REFRESHER informed you, which would mean that the program of the declaration stating that 2033 would be the final date for the extraction of this raw material would be invalid. But Fridays for Future activists don’t like that.
That is why they posted a request on the Internet, where supporters are provoking a planned protest. It should be organized classically on Friday, May 6 at 1:00 p.m. in Prague on Malostranské náměstí. The central theme of the climate strike will be to disagree with one extension of coal mining. “We don’t want a coal bag, we want a RES bag, “ states.
“The government wants to solve the current coal mining crisis in 15 years! False solution, concession from previous promises, betrayal. The real and current solution is elsewhere: in renewables and savings.
Instead of accelerating the development of clean energy, the government is addressing the extension of the end of coal. This is a thing of the past and will not help us solve the climate crisis. “ activists say a 15-year coal mining solution does not even address the current energy crisis.
“In addition, it is an absolute turnaround from the promises we received from the current government before the January elections in the program statement,” it bothers them.
The climate strike, as they say in their protest, is said to be all the more urgent when the war in Ukraine has added to the climate crisis. “We must not divert attention from the real and current solutions. We need faster development of renewable energy, faster and greater investment in austerity measures. We will not leave this step unanswered. Stay alert, ” appeals the group.
